It's Battery Maintenance Time Again!
With winter approaching once again, now is a good time to do a bit of battery maintenance. The cold dark months of winter are the hardest time for batteries and it is a good idea to give your batteries a bit of tender loving care to help them get through. There are two things that batteries don't like and there is often plenty of both during winter. They don't like being cold and they dont like sitting around for extended periods in a partly charged state.
Here is a 3 point maintenance procedure that you can carry out on your batteries:
- Check & tighten all connections. Clean off any corrosion and coat with petroleum jelly or a water displacing spray.
- Check electrolyte levels and top up with distilled water if required.
- Give your batteries an equalisation charge.
If you are unsure of how do this or don't want to do it yourself then please contact your nearest RE installer.
Try and keep your batteries as fully charged as possible. This is going to mean running your generator a bit more often and paying that little bit more attention to the power that you are using.
